Proper Food Storage
Storage requirements vary from product to product, so the most reliable guidance for any item you buy from us is always the information printed on its own packaging. Please follow the storage instructions provided by the manufacturer on each product, including any advice about temperature, humidity, sunlight exposure or shelf life once opened.
Refrigerated and Frozen Products
If you purchase refrigerated or frozen products from Super Indian Grocery, please keep the "cold chain" intact by getting these items into your fridge or freezer as soon as possible after your visit. Avoid leaving perishable products in a hot car, in direct sunlight, or at room temperature for extended periods, as this can allow them to enter the temperature range where bacteria multiply and food quality and safety can be compromised.
Packaging Condition
Please check the condition of packaging before you purchase and before you consume a product. We recommend not purchasing or consuming any item with packaging that is damaged, bulging, leaking, torn or otherwise compromised, as this can indicate the product is no longer safe to eat. If you notice a packaging issue with any product in-store, please bring it to the attention of our staff so we can address it.
Best-Before and Use-By Dates
It is important to understand the difference between these two types of date labels. A "best before" date relates to quality rather than safety — a product may still be safe to eat after this date has passed, but it may no longer be at its best in terms of flavour, texture or nutritional value. A "use by" date, on the other hand, relates to food safety. Products should not be consumed after their use-by date has passed, as they may pose a health risk even if they look and smell normal.
Product Handling at Home
Good hygiene practices at home help keep the food you buy from us safe to eat. General practices include washing your hands thoroughly before and after handling food, keeping raw foods (such as raw meat, poultry or seafood) separate from ready-to-eat foods to avoid cross-contamination, using separate utensils and chopping boards where appropriate, and following any cooking or preparation instructions printed on product packaging.
Food Recalls
From time to time, food products may be subject to a recall due to a safety concern identified by the manufacturer or a regulatory body. We encourage customers to check official sources, such as the Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) food recall pages, for current recall notices affecting products they may have purchased. Super Indian Grocery will act in accordance with any applicable recall notices affecting products we stock.
Your Responsibility
The information on this page is general in nature and is intended as a helpful guide only. It cannot cover the specific storage, handling or preparation requirements of every product we stock. Please always follow the specific instructions printed on individual product packaging, as these take precedence over the general guidance provided here.
